An Open and Affirming Congregation of

the United Church of Christ

Our traditional Sunday worship is in the Sanctuary at 10:00 AM

Much of our worship is currently available by email, video recordings, and Zoom.

Orinda Community Church is a vibrant spiritual community of seekers.  We have been a vital, faithful congregation for over 80 years, with deep roots in the community.  We are made up of dedicated and generous people: writers, activists and advocates, grandparents, youth, questioners, believers, musicians, and people who are engaged with life in more ways than we can count. Most centrally, we are people who love and support each other.  Our fellowship deepens our faith and helps us to recognize God’s love everywhere.

Our work in the Church and the Community:

  • We were the first church in the neighborhood to become an Open and Affirming Congregation. That means we thoughtfully worked together to articulate and support the full inclusions of LGBTQ people, both as members and as pastoral staff.

  • We have worked courageously to support the vulnerable: sponsoring an immigrant family through the immigration process, advocating powerfully for low income housing for elders, and supporting homeless families through the WINTER NIGHTS program and Hope Solutions.

  • Each year, through COMMON HOPE, we sponsor a house that is built for a family in Guatemala

  • We help bag groceries at the Alameda County Foodbank, and put together backpacks of school supplies for students in need.

  • We have just completed the process of becoming a “Creation Justice” congregation in response to the climate crisis.

  • We have formed an anti-racist study group to inform ourselves about racism and learn how to better dismantle it in support of our brothers and sisters who are people of color.

WORSHIP

We practice our spirituality both in traditional services and in contemplative ways.

  • Each Monday at 9:30 a.m., we offer CENTERING PRAYER in our chapel.

  • At 10:00 a.m. on Wednesdays, also in the chapel, we hold a brief CONTEMPLATIVE SERVICE with readings, prayer, and song.

  • We also have a canvas labyrinth that we set out for meditative worship and walking on special occasions.

  • Our traditional Sunday worship service starts at 10:00 AM in the Sanctuary.

  • And our MUSIC is extraordinary!

the ARTS at ORINDA COMMUNITY CHURCH

We are creative. Our congregation's writers' group, which meets twice a month, has produced powerful writing which we've displayed in our sanctuary. Our sanctuary gallery features artwork of all kinds from our members and friends.

Orinda Community Church has also founded the ALTA MESA CENTER FOR THE ARTS and hosts a monthly Zoom reading of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry to which all are welcome.

The United Church of Christ, of which we are a member congregation, asks that we begin our services each week with this statement:

No matter who you are and where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.

We invite you to come join us.

You are welcome here.
